The Ship Inn and Old Courthouse Restaurant

Local farmers Mr & Mrs Scrimshaw have sympathetically changed the interior of this once historic courthouse and inn, hand picking the antique tables and art. The place is fresh, warm and inviting. This is no ordinary pub and restaurant. The menu is thoughtful and local with creative treatment of a who's who of local Helston area produce including glistening seafood and organic veggies from Gear Farm. One to watch.

Free range chicken mashed potato and broad beans, girolles and Helford Cider Sauce a great local dish that says a lot about this place. Good local ingredients served in a simple style. The Ship Inn and Old Courthouse is n the picturesque village of Mawgan. It was once a coaching Inn dating from the 18th century and still retains much of its character. The kitchen boasts not a single microwave nor deep fat fryer, in fact a small freezer is only used to house chef's own ice cream and sorbets. The four oven Aga handles the Sunday roast and the winter braises. A real great example of a country inn serving superb food in a convivial atmosphere.
